Material of groove pipe fittings - ductile iron
Ductile iron pipes are safe and reliable in operation, have a low breakage rate, are easy and quick to install and maintain, and have excellent corrosion resistance. Our groove pipe fittings are supported by technical expertise from CNN Pipe Connection System Company in the United States.
Quality control in the production process of grooved pipe fittings
The company has a strong product R&D team and is equipped with the world’s most advanced 3D design software for mold design. All pipe fitting molds are designed using CAD/CAM computer-aided systems, and product structures are optimized based on finite element theory. Potential defects that may arise during the pipe fitting casting process are fully considered, and the safety factor of groove product designs is brought closer to actual production conditions.

The structure of groove pipe fittings
STRUCTURE AND APPLICATION
- The groove-type pipe joint pipeline connection system is a pressure-responsive sealing system. The sealing ring is inserted into the ends of the two connecting steel pipes, and two clamping plates wrap around the sealing ring to bear the pressure transmitted by the sealing ring. The clamping plates are inserted into the grooves of the steel pipes, and two round-headed bolts are tightened to achieve a flexible and rigid sealing connection between the steel pipes.
- Before connecting steel pipes, a specialized grooving machine or lathe must be used to press a standard-depth groove into the end of the steel pipe. For galvanized steel pipes, the grooves are rolled into the pipe using a grooving method, while thick-walled steel pipes can be slotted using a lathe method. This connection method can be used to connect steel pipes, copper pipes, stainless steel pipes, aluminum-plastic composite pipes, coated steel pipes, and ductile iron pipes.
- Sealing rings can be selected from different materials depending on the fluid medium. EPDM material sealing rings are mainly used in water systems, while Bunan material sealing rings are mainly used in petroleum products, carbon oxides, and air containing carbon compounds. Clamps are typically made of ductile iron, but in special cases, corrosion-resistant stainless steel clamps or copper clamps can be used.
- The bolts use a round-head elliptical neck bolt structure, which facilitates installation at the construction site. The clamps have elliptical holes to prevent the bolts from rotating, allowing the nuts to be easily tightened.
Rigid pipe joint connection
The rigid pipe joint connection method makes the system inflexible. Once the pipe joint is clamped tight, it forms a rigid unit with the steel pipe. When the span of the lifting device is large, the pipe relies on its own rigidity to support the connection.
Flexible pipe joint connection
The flexible pipe joint connection method provides flexibility to the system, allowing steel pipes to have a certain degree of angular deviation and relative misalignment. After the steel pipes are connected, a gap is left between the two pipe ends to accommodate pipe expansion and contraction. The pipe joint can maintain normal working pressure under maximum allowable deflection and misalignment. Flexible pipe joints have the ability to withstand certain end loads. End load refers to the ability of the pipe joint groove to withstand axial loads along the steel pipe.
Sectional view of flange pipe joint
Flange pipe fittings (conversion flanges, threaded flanges, pipe clamp flanges) can be used for transitional connections between groove-type pipes and flanged equipment and valves. The connecting bolts use national standard bolts. The bolt hole diameter and position dimensions of the flange are consistent with national standard flanges.
Mechanical tee (mechanical cross) application

Application of Grooved Pipe Fittings
Grooved-type pipe fittings include 90° elbows, 45° elbows, straight tees, reducer tees, and concentric reducer pipes, among other types, to meet the diverse connection requirements of piping systems. Blind flanges are used to seal the ends of piping systems and are used in conjunction with pipe fittings.

FAQ
What are grooved pipe fittings?
Grooved pipe fittings are a type of pipe fitting system that uses grooved connection technology to enable quick pipe installation. They are widely used in fields such as fire protection, water supply and drainage, HVAC, and petrochemical engineering. Their core feature is the use of prefabricated grooves and special clamps to achieve mechanical connections between pipes, replacing traditional welding or threaded connection methods.
How do you connect grooved pipes?
Connecting grooved pipes involves a mechanical joining method that uses pre-grooved pipe ends and grooved couplings (clamps) to create secure, leak-proof connections.
What is the difference between grooved and flanged connections?
Grooved connections use a clamp-style coupling that fits into pre-cut grooves on pipe ends, secured with bolts and a rubber gasket for a quick, flexible, and vibration-resistant joint—ideal for fast installation in fire protection or HVAC systems. Flanged connections involve bolting two flat, machined pipe ends (flanges) together with a gasket in between, providing a rigid, high-pressure seal common in industrial pipelines. Grooved joints are faster to install and allow movement, while flanged joints are stronger for high-pressure/temperature applications but require precise alignment and welding. Both eliminate threading/welding but serve different mechanical and pressure needs.
